Things To Be Considered Before Trekking In Nepal

Trekking in Nepal could be one of the best parts of your leisure activities. Since Nepal is a very popular destination and its richness of famous trekking routes could be your lifetime experience. Mesmerizing views, beautiful trails, and snow-capped mountains could take your breath and soar your heart. However, there are many things you need to know and consider before trekking in Nepal.

  • Packing Necessary Gears: Trekking in the alpine climates of Nepal is never predictable especially when you are hiking over 3000 Metres. Due to extreme weather conditions, it might get really cold. Make sure to get good cold gear, a raincoat, and a flashlight to prevent yourself from getting cold and wet. It is very important to get a necessary medical kit to in case of sickness or injuries.
  • Hiring a Guide: Hiring a guide is one of the most important things to do by any trekker. Guides are professionals who know the trail and a place to stay for the night. They know locals and are aware of everything that could go wrong on the trail. Guides are very friendly and dedicated to helping guests.
  • Educate Yourself About Altitude / Acute Mountain Sickness: Before starting your trek, you must be aware of what altitude sickness is and how to prevent it. Being physically fit might not be enough sometimes when you hike at higher altitudes. Hiking over 3000 Metres could be a real danger for many trekkers and this is very common. You can get altitude sickness when you travel to higher elevations for a short duration of time. Due to less oxygen and high air pressure breathing gets harder. Headache, Nausea and vomiting are the most common symptoms and if not addressed quickly could be an emergency.
  • Get Insured: Trekking in the Himalayas is not always fun. Sometimes you might get into a very rough and tough situation. Our government has designed many protocols to make sure on safety of our tourists but sometimes it is really hard to prevent risk. Due to few transportation options in Nepal, the only fastest way to rescue anyone from the mountain is a Helicopter which could be very expensive. Therefore, we would like you to get insured through a trustworthy insurance company just to be safe.
  • Always Check The Climate: Mountain climate is never the same and is very inconsistent. Due to bad climatic conditions, the trekking routes might get closed. This usually happens in the mid-monsoon and winter seasons. To be safe and sound, make sure you are well informed about the weather.
  • Try not to travel Alone: Solo travelling is getting popular these days and it is the best way to know and explore yourself.  Some people may not like others’ company while travelling. However trekking solo in a very remote area of Nepal could be a bad choice. In case of any incident, you may not be able to get help and communicate due to a poor communication system. Hence, we would always suggest you take a professional guide and carry a GPS/satellite phone with you even if you travel solo.
